For Authors
Submit ManuscriptSubmissions Review Process
The St. Mary’s Law Journal Vol. 54 Editorial Board welcomes your submissions on a rolling basis throughout the year.
- The Solicitations & Articles Editor receives each submission and performs an initial review.
- The Solicitations & Articles Editor sends the submission to three Articles Editors and the Managing Executive Editor. The Articles Editors individually perform thorough reviews of the entire submission, while the Managing Executive Editor reviews the submission for its quality of citations and fit within our production schedule. This review process generally takes about seven days.
- If at least two of three Articles Editors approve the submission and the Managing Executive Editor approves, the submission is considered accepted for publication.
- The Solicitations & Articles Editor sends the Author a contract signed by the Editor-in-Chief. The Author has about ten days to accept by signing and returning the contract.
Once a submission is fully accepted, the Author will remain in touch with the Solicitations & Articles Editor and Managing Executive Editor regarding the editing process for the work.
Each volume of the Journal includes four issues.
Manuscript Requirements
The text and citations of each submission should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed., 2020). The Journal also complies with Texas Rules of Form: The Greenbook (14th ed., 2017) and the Texas Law Review Manual on Usage and Style (14th ed., 2017).
The Journal seeks article submissions of about 20,000 words. Flexibility on this requirement is given in consideration of the submission’s quality and fit within Volume 54.
Authors should submit an abstract alongside each submission. Additionally, a cover letter and an updated CV are preferred.
